Working with others

Friends of Douglas Park is part of the Greening CamGlen network (https://www.camglencommunities.org.uk/greeningcamglen).  Greening CamGlen is a network of local community groups who are working together to promote environmental initiatives to help both the environment and the local community.  Greening CamGlen is run by Healthy n Happy Community Development Trust.

We are currently forming plans to improve the biodiversity of Douglas Park to link with the Greening Spaces initiative from Greening CamGlen.  This initiative aims to build a network of green spaces throughout the area.  Our plans for the park involve increasing the number of flowering shrubs, perennial plants and wildflowers with the aim of attracting bees and butterflies to the park.  Stage 1 of this is the reinstatement of the central rose bed to provide flowers and a central focus for the park.

In 2019, we obtained a grant from Healthy n Happy to buy four vegetable planters, gardening equipment and compost which have been used as a community growing project.  The recent Covid-19 restrictions prevented us from involving the community in planting last year, and potentially this year too, but the vegetables can be harvested in a safe, socially distance way.

Friends of Douglas Park is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) regulated by the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR)
